So your recently engaged and it’s time to plan the big day. Uh oh! Where do you begin? Odds are you’ve never planned a wedding before or haven’t done so in a very long time.
Like anything you don’t do regularly, it can can feel overwhelming. As a wedding photographer I’ve talked with and assisted hundreds of couples, here are the three biggest tips I have for beginning your wedding planning.
Book Your Venue & Photographer Early – Venues and photographers have finite availability and their schedules fill quickly, especially if your getting married during peak wedding season. You will want to get these two things locked down very early in your planning process. They also offer the added benefit of often being able to steer you in the direction of other reputable vendors so it really gets the domino effect rolling.
Check out my blog post on selecting a photographer, many of the principles listed in it also apply to choosing a venue. http://hannaartsphotography.com/5-tips-choosing-wedding-photographer/
Enjoy The Ride – Planning a wedding can be stressful, no doubt about it. You want everything to be perfect yet within the budget boundaries you’ve got to work with. Start a binder to keep all your vendor information and plans, having everything readily available and organized will reduce stress. Relax and enjoy the process rather than stressing out over every choice you need to make. Look at the planning as a way of making memories and bonding with friends and loved ones along the way. For example, spend a day looking at venues your interested in. Be sure a couple of them are wineries and have a few drinks to discuss the properties you’ve looked at. A few glasses of wine are always good at soothing nerves and making memories.
Here’s another helpful blog post with an extensive list of venues in North Georgia, including wineries of course. 😉 http://hannaartsphotography.com/best-wedding-venues-north-georgia/
Only Work With People You Genuinely Like – Don’t be afraid to get to know potential vendors before hiring them. Only hire the ones you click with. Working with someone you don’t like can really compound stress not only during planning but on your wedding day. Plus, if your vendor genuinely likes you they are certain to go above and beyond to serve you, their new friend.
It is my sincerest hope that these three tips help you begin to plan your wedding. You’ve got a lot of decisions to make between now and you big day. It can be as fun or miserable as you make it. I vote for fun, enjoy the journey! I’d love to talk to you about your wedding and how I may be of service to you!
